The company, which provides tower crane services in the Las Vegas area, was incorporated in the state of Nevada in July 2002. According to the Nevada Secretary of State records, Republic Tower & Hoist has two managing members:

• Southwestern Tower Crane & Hoist, LLC was incorporated in the state of Florida in August 2002 and is controlled by the ownership group of Steven Retterath, Jason Retterath and James Robertson.
• Western Crane & Hoist, LLC was incorporated in state of Nevada in July 2002 and is solely controlled by Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Soffer of Turnberry Associates, a high-end real estate developer based in Aventura, FL.

Nevada corporate records also show that Soffer and Robertson-Retterath ownership team established at least two other crane companies called Republic Crane Service, LLC and American Crane & Hoist Erectors, LLC.

According to various court documents, Republic Tower has provided tower crane services to multiple Soffer/Turnberry developments in Las Vegas. Soffer’s latest Las Vegas project, the 3,900 room hotel called Fontainebleau Las Vegas, however, suffered a major setback when banks cut off financing midway through construction.

In June 2009 the developer filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Among the listed creditors were Republic Tower & Hoist, Republic Crane Service, and American Crane & Hoist Erectors. Each entity has since filed liens against the Fontainebleau Las Vegas development for unpaid debt.

In September 2009 Republic Crane Service was sued by multiple employee benefits Trusts of the Operating Engineers, Local Union No. 12 in the U.S. District Court of Nevada. According to the suit’s complaint, in August 2006 Republic Crane agreed to be bound by a collective bargaining agreement with Local 12. The agreement required Republic Crane to contribute fringe benefit payments to the Trusts. The Trusts alleged that as of the filing of the complaint, Republic Crane was delinquent $209,668.41.

On October 13, Republic Crane reached a settlement agreement with the Local 12 Benefit Trusts. In the settlement Republic Crane agreed to pay the full amount due plus interest to the various Operating Engineer Local 12 Trusts. Payment must be made by March, 2010.
